a Tiffany pin

My maternal grandmother, born Grazietta Silverio, lived 98 years, and only needed care for the last six months of her life. For her 75th birthday, I wanted to get her something special, and gave her a little silver pin in the shape of a bow, with gold-tipped edges, from Tiffany’s. I hoped that would please her. My mother had to explain that Tiffany’s was the fancy store where one of Nana’s soap opera character’s engagement ring was found. When Nana died, I asked for the pin back, but it took a long time to find, as, being silver, it had turned black. But it was found, and I cleaned and polished it, and took it home. I wear it on my rain hat. When I wore it today, it struck me that I am somewhat older than Nana was when I gave the silver Tiffany pin to her. It made me want to tell the story.
